Southeast Museum Of Photography
Photography is probably the most influential medium of the modern era. No other form of communication or expression has done as much to transform our sense of self, our daily lives and our society as the photograph.
At every turn we are surrounded by photography. From sports, and news coverage, fashion, advertising and fine arts, to our own family albums, we find photographs permeating every aspect of life. We could not imagine a world without these images. The wonderful and exciting thing about photography is its ability to perform many roles and functions as both a means of representation and as a tool for individual expression. It can generate a vast array of meanings and experiences and is constantly open for renewal, re-appraisal and reinterpretation.
Now well into its second decade, the museum is a vibrant and vital meeting place of ideas and a first rate cultural resource for our college and the region. The museum enjoys strong community, college and government support and has an excellent reputation for its dynamic exhibitions, programs and publications.
The museum is now in a major new growth phase. Our goals are to significantly expand our educational programming and services and to add to the range of the permanent collection. We are in the midst of developing plans to expand our schools and children’s programs, our college curriculum service and our membership activities. We were fortunate to have had great success with our exhibitions and with expanding public programs.
On behalf of all the museum staff I would like to invite you and your family and friends to visit the museum.

Thank you for your interest in the Southeast Museum of Photography. These guidelines are to be used by museums, curators, and galleries, not individual artists. The Southeast Museum of Photography has high standards for submissions, so importance must be placed on the artist’s readiness for offering exhibition material. The SMP focuses on emerging artists, with already accumulated exhibition experience. The most successful submissions are coherent bodies of work accompanied by an artist’s statement. Unconventional techniques should be explained. Please submit information about your gallery or museum along with your images. Other things that may be helpful are clippings, reviews, catalogues or other publications.
